Workouts!

I try to make all of my workouts as accessible as possible. I do a lot of circuit workouts, because they're quick and awesome, and they're really challenging. This means you work really hard for about 30 seconds to 1 minute (usually), then you take a short rest and start working again. I've read that these kind of workouts are great for burning fat and building lean muscle. They're also usually no longer than 20-25 minutes so it's pretty hard to find an excuse not to do it. I also love to do yoga, I think it really balances out any exercise program. I run occasionally but I don't like it as much-I get bored easily. I love going on walks with my family and our dog. I schedule exercise into my day. I think this is so important, because if it's not part of your plan it's too easy to come up with excuses not to do it. I know it's hard, but taking 30 minutes to an hour a day to take care of yourself is not selfish and it shouldn't get put on the back burner. It makes you a happier, more fun and energetic person. If you have kids try to think of ways to get them involved. My daughter comes up with exercise moves that we do together for our warm up. Sometimes we end up just dancing and jumping around which is great because it teaches her that exercise is fun. Of course, she's not always involved and I'm not always patient enough to let her workout with me but I try to remember to relax and keep it fun.
I've also been working out with my mom for the past couple of months. She's come along way in her physical abilities and she's down a size! I just take my workouts and modify them for her level of fitness. Most of the time we have a great time and laugh a lot when we workout (most of the time).
I am not a certified personal trainer. All of these workouts are my own creation or borrowed from some other source. It's important to talk to your doctor if you haven't been exercising regularly and you want to start a new program, especially circuit workouts because they can be very intense. Remember, you want to push yourself, but you don't want to hurt yourself. Consistency is how you're going to reach your goals, not pushing yourself to your limit for a couple of weeks, this will only cause burnout and you won't get anywhere. Also, remember that nutrition is almost more important to physical fitness than exercise. You're not going to see results if you're not eating well. That's why I call this blog Wholly Fitness. You have to practice being healthy in every part of your life to reach your goals and be truly happy.
If you have any questions about any of my workouts, or would like modifications, just let me know. I'd be happy to help you find something that works for you and your fitness level!
